EPA Superfund Site

SALT CHUCK MINE

AK | EPA ID AK0001897602

Human exposure is under control

About this site’s exposure pathways: The Salt Chuck Mine Superfund site is considered Current Human Exposure Not Under Control because people are eating clams from here, and clam tissue data shows concentrations of arsenic above risk based standards. There may also be hazardous exposures from soil, sediments, and/or groundwater. The site was proposed for the National Priorities List on September 23, 2009. EPA will soon begin a Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study to better characterize potential site risks and develop options for cleanup. The Forest Service has posted signs warning the public about the overall nature of site risks.

Data limitations: Proximity to a Superfund site boundary does not mean your property is contaminated. EPA site boundaries show the area designated for cleanup, not the full extent of contamination. Groundwater plumes can extend beyond site boundaries. This tool shows publicly available EPA federal data.
