Human exposure is NOT currently under control

About this site’s exposure pathways: As of May 2025, the DePue/New Jersey Zinc/Mobil Chemical Corp. Superfund site is considered "Current
Human Exposures Not Under Control". Soil samples at residential properties in Operable Unit (OU) 4 exceed
screening levels for lead, arsenic, manganese, and cadmium. The 2017 Record of Decision (ROD) for OU4 requires excavation of contaminated soils at residential properties, parks, and alleys. Remedial Action began in 2020 and as of Spring 2025, 76 properties need to be sampled and 32 need to be remediated. An interim remedy was completed at OU1 in 2006 and OU2 has recently been capped in accordance with state landfill regulations. OUs 3 and 5 are in the Remedial Investigation (RI)/Feasibility Study phase. The OU6 RI will begin following the conclusion of OU4 sampling. Human exposures are expected to be under control by the end of September 2030 when remedial action has been completed.

Data limitations: Proximity to a Superfund site boundary does not mean your property is contaminated. EPA site boundaries show the area designated for cleanup, not the full extent of contamination. Groundwater plumes can extend beyond site boundaries. This tool shows publicly available EPA federal data.
