CROSS BROTHERS PAIL RECYCLING (PEMBROKE)

IL | EPA ID ILD980792303

Human exposure is NOT currently under control

About this site’s exposure pathways: As of August 2025, there is sufficient information to determine the site-wide Human Exposure Control status as Human Exposure not under control (HENC) at the Cross Brothers Pail Recycling (Pembroke) Superfund site because identified lead impacts in soil (soil piles, ground subsurface and ground surface) were discovered in summer 2022 and 2023, as identified in the Removal Evaluation Reports dated January 26, 2023, and August 14, 2024. The extent of lead contamination is not currently defined, and access agreements are being completed to perform additional sampling. Planned activities to further address the impacts include a new Remedial Investigation and Feasibility Study, estimated to begin in 2026.

Data limitations: Proximity to a Superfund site boundary does not mean your property is contaminated. EPA site boundaries show the area designated for cleanup, not the full extent of contamination. Groundwater plumes can extend beyond site boundaries. This tool shows publicly available EPA federal data.
