Exposure status: insufficient data

About this site’s exposure pathways: As of August 2024, there is not sufficient information available to determine the site-wide Human Exposure (HE) Control status at LaSalle Electric Utilities Superfund Site because of a newly identified exposure pathway. The main contaminants of concern at the Site are PCBs and VOCs and the current human health exposure pathway is ingestion of groundwater. In March 2005, the groundwater extraction, groundwater treatment unit, and the soil vapor extraction systems were shut down. Recent groundwater sampling data shows a potential residential and commercial vapor intrusion risk based on VOCs in groundwater. The activities planned to make the HE determination include soil gas sampling, and if necessary sub-slab and indoor air sampling to confirm if there is a vapor intrusion exposure pathway. EPA will work with the property owners of the residential and commercial properties to get access for any sampling on the properties.

Data limitations: Proximity to a Superfund site boundary does not mean your property is contaminated. EPA site boundaries show the area designated for cleanup, not the full extent of contamination. Groundwater plumes can extend beyond site boundaries. This tool shows publicly available EPA federal data.
