Human exposure is NOT currently under control

About this site’s exposure pathways: As of June 2025, the Bautsch-Gray Mine Superfund Site is considered “Current Human Exposures Not Under Control” because residents, construction workers, trespassers, and recreationalists can be exposed through direct contact to arsenic and lead contaminated soils and mine tailings. The United States Environmental Protection Agency began addressing direct exposure with removal actions completed between 2009-2012. The remedy has multiple remedial design and remedial action components. The site stability and stormwater control remedial action are ongoing. The residential soil remedial design is complete. The mine tailings source area remedial design is underway. Remedial Action on the mine tailings source areas and residential soils is estimated to be completed by December 2030 at which time human exposures are anticipated to be under control. Public outreach efforts, including fact sheets, phone calls, and postcards, continue as cleanup progresses at the Site.

Data limitations: Proximity to a Superfund site boundary does not mean your property is contaminated. EPA site boundaries show the area designated for cleanup, not the full extent of contamination. Groundwater plumes can extend beyond site boundaries. This tool shows publicly available EPA federal data.
