About this site’s exposure pathways: As of May 2025 the U.S. Smelter and Lead Refinery, Inc. Superfund site is considered “Current Human Exposures Not Under Control” because lead in residential soil are above the Jan. 2024 Updated Lead guidance Removal Management Levels (RML) and one industrial parcel is pending remediation. The planned activities to address the ingestion and inhalation direct exposure pathway to soil include re-evaluation of remedial design sampling results against the new RML, bioavailability, and background, and additional remedial action and institutional controls where necessary. These activities are expected to be completed by 9/30/2030 at which time human exposures are expected to be under control.
