Exposure status: insufficient data

About this site’s exposure pathways: As of August 2024, there is insufficient information to determine the site-wide Human Exposure Control status at the Gary Development Landfill Superfund Site. EPA is performing an ongoing remedial investigation for groundwater, as chemicals have been detected at concentrations posing potentially unacceptable risks to human health in samples from groundwater monitoring wells along the perimeter of the landfill waste boundary, and no wells have been sampled beyond the property boundary. Potential exposure from vapor intrusion has not been evaluated outside the source area. A supplemental groundwater RI Addendum and human health risk assessment will be developed when sufficient information is collected. EPA anticipates having sufficient information to make a human exposure determination by February 2034 as part of the selected remedy for the site.

Data limitations: Proximity to a Superfund site boundary does not mean your property is contaminated. EPA site boundaries show the area designated for cleanup, not the full extent of contamination. Groundwater plumes can extend beyond site boundaries. This tool shows publicly available EPA federal data.
