JACOBSVILLE NEIGHBORHOOD SOIL CONTAMINATION

IN | EPA ID INN000508142

Human exposure is NOT currently under control

About this site’s exposure pathways: As of August 2025, the Jacobsville Neighborhood Soil Contamination Superfund site is considered "Current Human Exposures Not Under Control" because residential properties have unacceptable levels of lead and arsenic in soil. There is a potential risk to human health through direct contact with lead- and arsenic- contaminated soil should soil be excavated. The first phase of the cleanup began in 2007 and cleanup is ongoing. The combined cleanups have resulted in the removal of lead- and arsenic-contaminated soil from over approximately 4,500 residential properties in Evansville. The EPA estimates that a total of approximately 5,400 residential properties will require cleanup. Information availability sessions are held before and during the remedial work, and fact sheets are periodically mailed to inform residents of the risks associated with the contaminated soil and about the cleanup.

Data limitations: Proximity to a Superfund site boundary does not mean your property is contaminated. EPA site boundaries show the area designated for cleanup, not the full extent of contamination. Groundwater plumes can extend beyond site boundaries. This tool shows publicly available EPA federal data.
