Exposure status: insufficient data

About this site’s exposure pathways: As of November 2024, there is insufficient information to determine the site-wide Human Exposure Control status at North 5th Street Groundwater Contamination Superfund Site. The site consists of a plume of groundwater contaminated with -1,2-dichloroethene (DCE); trans-1,2-DCE; vinyl chloride; tetrachloroethylene; 1,2-dichloropropane which has impacted four municipal wells that supply drinking water to the city of Goshen. Contaminant levels are below the Safe Drinking Water Act Maximum Contaminant Level; groundwater is treated in Goshen to ensure its safety before distributed to residents. A Remedial Investigation to evaluate the site contamination and potential risks to human health is expected to be completed by the end of July 2028, at which time sufficient information is expected to be available to make a determination on the Human Exposure Control status. Community involvement public interviews were conducted in April 2024. A Community Involvement Plan is under development.

Data limitations: Proximity to a Superfund site boundary does not mean your property is contaminated. EPA site boundaries show the area designated for cleanup, not the full extent of contamination. Groundwater plumes can extend beyond site boundaries. This tool shows publicly available EPA federal data. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by EPA, and is not a substitute for a professional environmental assessment.
