EPA Superfund Site

LOWER NEPONSET RIVER

MA | EPA ID MAN000102204

Human exposure is NOT currently under control

About this site’s exposure pathways: As of September 2024, the Lower Neponset River Superfund Site is considered "Insufficient Data to make a Human Exposure evaluation" (HEID). The Remedial Investigation is ongoing and sediment, soil, surface water, fish tissue, and mussel tissue analysis and data validation is ongoing through June of 2025. An Engineering Evaluation/Cost Analysis to evaluate the most upstream mile of the river, which includes a Streamlined Risk Assessment, is planned for completion by January of 2025. Current fish consumption advisories are in place, and direct contact with soil/sediment risks are being evaluated for the full 3.7-mile Site. Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are among the contaminants of concern at the Site.

Data limitations: Proximity to a Superfund site boundary does not mean your property is contaminated. EPA site boundaries show the area designated for cleanup, not the full extent of contamination. Groundwater plumes can extend beyond site boundaries. This tool shows publicly available EPA federal data. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by EPA, and is not a substitute for a professional environmental assessment.
