Exposure status: insufficient data

About this site’s exposure pathways: As of November 2024, there is insufficient information to determine the site-wide Human Exposure Control status for the Leeds Metal Superfund site. The Leeds Metal Superfund site was added to the National Priorities List (NPL) in September 2012. Since that time, EPA has negotiated a Scope of Work (SOW) for the performance of a Remedial Investigation (RI) and Feasibility Study (FS) with the Potentially Responsible Parties (PRPs). The initial draft RI (inclusive of risk assessment) was received in May 2023 – however based on EPA’s review, the report was significantly deficient and thus the conclusions could not be supported. In June 2024, EPA received an additional draft RI report. However, the Human Health Risk Assessment (HHRA) and Screening Level Ecological Risk Assessment (SLERA) are being drafted as two separate documents. EPA received both reports in October 2024 and are currently under review. Data gaps are being assessed to determine volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) impact to local residential drinking water wells surrounding the Site and whether additional wells need to be included for treatment. Property access, outside fenced portions of the site south of Leeds Metal, was just granted and until property-prepared assessments are reviewed, no conclusions can be drawn in these areas. At such time that sufficient information is available to make a site-wide Human Exposure Control determination, the status for this site will be updated.

Data limitations: Proximity to a Superfund site boundary does not mean your property is contaminated. EPA site boundaries show the area designated for cleanup, not the full extent of contamination. Groundwater plumes can extend beyond site boundaries. This tool shows publicly available EPA federal data. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by EPA, and is not a substitute for a professional environmental assessment.
