EPA Superfund Site

GENERAL MILLS/HENKEL CORP.

MN | EPA ID MND051441731

Human exposure is NOT currently under control

About this site’s exposure pathways: As of December 2024, the General Mills/Henkel Corp. site is considered "Current Human Exposure Not Under Control" due to trichloroethylene (TCE) contamination in groundwater posing a vapor intrusion risk to nearby residences and businesses. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) transferred the site to EPA oversight on October 25, 2022. Previously, General Mills installed vapor mitigation systems in about 160 homes under MPCA direction and has since ceased work attributing remaining TCE to the nearby Southeast Hennepin Area Groundwater and Vapor Superfund site. MPCA is pursuing legal action and working to access ten remaining properties for sampling and mitigation. Human exposures are anticipated to be under control once the remaining properties are addressed, expected by the end of 2025.

Data limitations: Proximity to a Superfund site boundary does not mean your property is contaminated. EPA site boundaries show the area designated for cleanup, not the full extent of contamination. Groundwater plumes can extend beyond site boundaries. This tool shows publicly available EPA federal data.
