Human exposure is NOT currently under control

About this site’s exposure pathways: As of March 2026, the Kurt Manufacturing Co. Superfund site is considered "Current Human Exposure Not Under Control" because there is a potentially complete indoor air exposure pathway from vapor intrusion of subsurface chlorinated volatile organic compounds. The site is an active manufacturing facility occupied by employees during normal operating hours. The potentially responsible party (Kurt Manufacturing) has installed a sub-slab vapor mitigation system. While indoor air concentrations are typically below risk-based levels, the system is not achieving full suction pressure at several locations. Kurt is currently making modifications to the system and conducting additional sampling to verify if exposures are controlled, expected to be completed by September 2027. To mitigate risks in the interim, the company has sealed plumbing features (air breaks and floor drains), vented a sump to the atmosphere, and is operating the vapor mitigation system continuously.

Data limitations: Proximity to a Superfund site boundary does not mean your property is contaminated. EPA site boundaries show the area designated for cleanup, not the full extent of contamination. Groundwater plumes can extend beyond site boundaries. This tool shows publicly available EPA federal data.
