ROCKWELL INTERNATIONAL WHEEL & TRIM
MS | EPA ID MSD007037278
About this site’s exposure pathways:
As of September 2024, the Rockwell International Wheel & Trim site is considered to be in an "Insufficient Data to Determine Human Exposure Control" (HEID) status because site workers could be exposed to soil contaminated with metal or Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) at the site operable unit (OU) 3. Contaminants of potential concern include hexavalent chromium, trichloroethylene (TCE) and VOCs. Rockwell was finalized on the National Priorities List (NPL) in 2018 and there has not yet been a sitewide evaluation of the human health exposure risks.
EPA uses this Human Exposure status when there is insufficient data/evidence to determine whether actual or reasonably anticipated human exposures are occurring, and/or whether those exposures are above acceptable risk-based levels. The OU1 Remedial Investigation (RI) has been completed, and there are no current risks. The Record of Decision is scheduled for 2026 to address the future potential risk from groundwater. In OU2, a non-time critical removal action (NTCRA) has been implemented to prevent the spread of contaminated groundwater and to address the unacceptable exposure to vapor intrusion with a mitigation system. A sitewide RI is expected to begin by 2026, which will evaluate if any human exposure pathway has current risks. EPA has prepared a Community Involvement Plan and provides updates and other information about the site through posts to the site profile page, mailouts, and meetings with the community. EPA currently anticipates that there will be sufficient data to make a Human Exposure determination by December 2028 because the sitewide remedial investigation and Human Health Baseline Risk Assessment should be completed by that time.
