INDUSTRIAL EXCESS LANDFILL

Exposure status: insufficient data

About this site’s exposure pathways: As of December 2024, there is not sufficient information available to determine the site-wide Human Exposure Control status at the Industrial Excess Landfill Superfund Site because of a newly identified pathway concerning methane and potential non-methane volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in subsurface soil gas and outdoor air that may pose a risk to nearby residents, and because of the presence of 1,4-dioxane in groundwater within an aquifer used for drinking water purposes. The activities planned to make the human exposure (HE) determination include: a vapor intrusion (VI) assessment; an outdoor air assessment; continuing the 1,4-dioxane investigation; and updating the risk assessments, as needed. Planning and implementation of these investigations are underway. The United States Environmental Protection Agency expects to be able to complete these investigations and to make a determination on the site-wide Human Exposure Control status by the end of December 2025.

Data limitations: Proximity to a Superfund site boundary does not mean your property is contaminated. EPA site boundaries show the area designated for cleanup, not the full extent of contamination. Groundwater plumes can extend beyond site boundaries. This tool shows publicly available EPA federal data. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by EPA, and is not a substitute for a professional environmental assessment.
