Data limitations: Proximity to a Superfund site boundary does not mean your property is contaminated. EPA site boundaries show the area designated for cleanup, not the full extent of contamination. Groundwater plumes can extend beyond site boundaries. This tool shows publicly available EPA federal data. About this site's exposure pathways

As of January 2025, the site is considered Current Human Exposure Not Under Control (HENC) because mercury concentrations in Operable Unit (OU) B Marine sediment and tissue indicate that consumption of fish and shellfish from Sinclair Inlet may result in unacceptable exposures to humans. This site is within the Suquamish Tribe Usual and Accustomed fishing area and is accessible by boat to the Tribe and the public. However, the Washington State Department of Health has a fish consumption advisory in place and the Navy restricts access to the near shore areas of the facility.

Currently, Navy activities to address this pathway include a focused feasibility study leading to a proposed plan and Record of Decision. EPA and the Department of Defense currently anticipate that human exposure will be under control by 2040 once the remedial action is complete.
