Human exposure is NOT currently under control

About this site’s exposure pathways: As of August 2025, the Amcast Industrial Corporation Superfund site is considered “Current Human Exposure Not Under Control” because of uncontrolled exposures to polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB)-contaminated soils in residenital yards, sediments in nearby ponds, and fish in the ponds. One of the ponds is located in a city park. Signs are posted along the ponds warning people not to eat the fish, and that swimming and wading are not allowed. EPA contacted nearby residents providing information regarding the Site and collected soil samples from their yards; then went door to door notifying residents of the results. A Record of Decision was finalized September 23, 2023 requiring dredging of the ponds and excavation of the yards. Remedial design work is currently underway and is expected to be completed in the winter of 2025. Community outreach activities have included the establishment of public information repositories, a website, community interviews, meetings and informational mailings.

Data limitations: Proximity to a Superfund site boundary does not mean your property is contaminated. EPA site boundaries show the area designated for cleanup, not the full extent of contamination. Groundwater plumes can extend beyond site boundaries. This tool shows publicly available EPA federal data.
